How Do I Get FEC?

The Florida Education Channel is located on DISH Network, satellite 61.5, channel 9418. The majority of DISH Network’s programming is broadcast from the 110/119 satellite locations. To receive the FEC, your satellite dish (antenna) must be pointed at the Echostar III satellite located at 61.5 degrees. This is an important distinction to make to the vendor who is installing your equipment. Vendors typically set up systems to receive the 110/119 satellite locations since this is where a majority of the programming is located (i.e. Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and PBS). You must specifically request that your installer point your dish to the 61.5 location.

TO RECEIVE THE FLORIDA EDUCATION CHANNEL YOU NEED THE FOLLOWING:
  • The installation of a DISH Network satellite dish pointed at the 61.5 satellite (or 118.5 on the west coast). If you wish to receive commercial programming in addition to the Florida Education Channel you must install a second dish which will be pointed at the 110/119 satellite.
  • A DISH Network receiver which will be wired to the satellite dish.
  • A cable ready television or monitor for testing the installation and viewing the programming.
  • Activation fees: The term "activate" is used to describe the process of turning on your equipment to receive the FEC channel. Choose which type of service you desire from the two choices below and follow the appropriate account set-up procedures.
    • My school/site will receive the Florida Education Channel without a subscription to any additional commercial programming.
      • A $72 annual fee is paid to DISH Network to receive the FEC. The fee is required by DISH Network. The fee provides activation of your receiver for all the Public Interest Channels carried on the DISH Network. Currently no portions of that fee are returned to PAEC. NOTE: Some public interest channels are carried on the 110/119 satellite locations and will require a second dish pointed at that satellite location to receive those channels. Contact DISH Network for a complete list of public interest channels.
      • After the equipment is installed your installer will call and activate your equipment. Call 1-800-454-0843 for activation.
      • After the receiver is activated, you will begin receiving the FEC 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You will be billed annually $72, based on your activation date.
    • I am subscribing to a DISH Network program package (Education Package, or any other "package" defined by DISH Network) and will receive the Florida Education Channel and all other public interest channels at no additional charge.
      • After the equipment is installed at your site, you or the installer will call DISH Network at 1-800-454-0843 to activate your receiver.
      • DISH Network will activate your equipment to receive the FEC and other programs you have purchased.
      • You will be billed directly by DISH Network on a monthly basis for all your programming. Please note that DISH requires immediate payment to assure your equipment is not turned off (deactivated). If your equipment is turned off, your school/site is responsible for any reconnect fees and any other payments.

If you have any questions about the above procedures, contact the FEC at 1-877-873-7232, ext. 2223. Thank you and we look forward to serving your school with the convenient, quality professional development content and assessment tools.
