Electronic Field Trip: Searching for Life in the Great Smoky Mountains

This Electronic Field Trip provides students with an educational experience that breaks down the geographic barrier between youth and our national treasures and creates a shared classroom experience with park rangers, fellow students and classrooms across the country.

This Electronic Field Trip provides seven learning modules available at www.smokymountaineft.org. Each module contains an interactive game, a 4-to-6 minute video, and a classroom activity.

The online learning modules broadly cover the topics of:
• One - Understanding Biodiversity (biomes)
• Two - Connected Web (fitting into a food chain)
• Three - Why so Diverse in Great Smoky Mountains? (geological connections – what’s my “ecosystem address?”)
• Four – Studying Biodiversity (ABTI – All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory)
• Five - Biodiversity Threats (invasive species; the Xylem isn’t flowing)
• Six - Protecting Biodiversity (species reintroduction; Backyard Biodiversity Challenge)
• Seven - Backyard Stewardship
