Frances Highest Distinction



World War II veterans who served in France and earned medals for their service on French soil are eligible for France's highest distinction: the French Legion of Honor. In 2004, the French Republic began awarding its highest distinction to American Veterans of World War II. Since then, numerous World War II veterans have been named Knight of the Legion of Honor. Consul General of France Philippe Vinogradoff awards Washington County native, Retired Staff Sergeant Louis Johns with this medal.
